September 6, 2015 – Writing Outside the Lines – Prompt 5
Along with good poetry, I love good art. I found an amazing site where Serena Malyon/Artcyclopedia used a technique called Tilt-Shift on Van Gogh’s paintings. Instead of the viewer seeing the entire piece of art as it was painted, Serena ‘shifted’ the viewer perspective to a selected section of the painting making it crisp and clear with the other parts slightly out of focus. The results are stunning. Using the Tilt-Shift version of The Starry night created by Serena Malyon write to your heart’s content. Choose the tilt-shift section or another part…or, write about your impression of this technique. Remember you are in charge of your words, there is no ‘right or wrong’ with this process other than to have FUN!
You have until Sunday, September 13, 2015 to share your writing. For those new to this challenge, please read the particulars under the third tab that says “read first” https://annieswritingchallenge.wordpress.com/writing-outside-the-lines/
So … here is Serena Malyon’s wonderful Tilt-Shift rendition of Van Gogh’s The Starry Night …

Imitation
Likely possessed
By insanity…
Cutting off his own ear
Yet Vincent created
Art for the ages…
Like most artists
Unrecognized
In his time…
Now revered
By the masses
Who today
In our time
Would still
Pass him by
Painting’s
Tradition
Of imitation
Has its
Limitations
Genius…
However flawed
Outshines the work
Of a machine
So imitation
Can’t always be seen
As the sincerest
Form of flattery
Having visited the Van Gogh Museum at Paulus Potterstraat 7, 1071 CX Amsterdam, Netherlands, and seen the real deal, digital manipulations can’t compare.

yes, how true … Van Gogh would not be loved today either … he would shunned and most likely homeless … as we do not take very good care of our mentally ill .. great work Robert! loved it … ;))

That is why great art just like great poetry is left to the whim of the viewer and reader. Your words do just that!
So glad you are participating!

Here is mine. More of a rambling than a poem or short story. 🙂 But it is what came to me when I studied the picture.

Just out of reach…in the deepest recess of my mind, I see them.
Floating on the horizon. My vision is blurred, unclear.. But they can’t hide their light.
Dancing and swirling in the night sky. I want to dance with them, but I can’t.. Not yet. But I will some day. Adding my own bright colors, blending with theirs.. So close..reaching out my hand.. So close..yet…. Soon
